One of the most important agricultural centers in California, and one of the agricultural leaders in the country. This area grows grapes, oranges and cotton, as well as raises more turkeys than anywhere else in the United States.
Fresno county is also home to several wineries, and is one of the oldest grape growing regions in the U.S. The Madera Wine Trail, which runs out of Madera, just a few minutes from the city of Fresno, is made up of several wineries that offer tastings, tours of the vineyards, and even food for your viticultural enjoyment.
For those who love to shop, there are four shopping centers within Fresno County - the River Park Shopping Center, the Fashion Fair Mall, the Manchester Center, and Sierra Vista Mall. Food, quality stores, and special events can be found at these locations.
A thriving arts scene also makes Fresno a great place to visit. The Tower District offers various events over the course of the year which celebrate diversity and is the center of the city's alternative lifestyle community. The Fresno Metropolitan Museum offers fun for the whole family with workshops and exhibits that make learning about art, history, and science fun! The William Saroyan Theatre is the home of the Fresno Philharmonic Orchestra and the Fresno Ballet, and has hosted magicians, concerts and Broadway shows.
Fresno is also home to the Chafee Zoo, one of the most popular attractions in the city and in central California. The Legion of Valor Museum pays tribute to veterans, and is a great place to spend the day. The Forestiere Underground Gardens is a testament to persistance and a must-see attraction.
